Advanced Endoscopy: Techniques, Tips, and Resources

Diving into EUS, ERCP, EMR, and ESD: Your Guide to Advanced Endoscopic Procedures

With over thirty years of experience in endoscopy and a commitment to continually learning new skills, this website aims to be a resource for those learning endoscopy, particularly advanced endoscopy, and for anyone seeking additional information. There is a wealth of online content, including published articles, reviews, case reports, endoscopic videos showcasing techniques, tips, and tricks, and experts sharing their insights. However, this information is scattered across various platforms, such as Pubmed, posts on X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and different GI society websites.

I hope to curate some of this information, offering both links and commentary. Drawing from my own experience, I plan to share instructive cases with images, both endoscopic and radiologic, that will benefit both novice and experienced endoscopists.

Having worked in multiple hospital systems and gastroenterology endoscopy suites, including hospital-based and free-standing ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) or ambulatory endoscopy centers (AECs), I will provide insights into efficiency in scheduling, design, equipment, documentation, billing, and workflow. I am also available for consulting on these topics.

Join me on this journey in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy, especially the growing area of advanced therapeutic or interventional endoscopy.

Please feel free to leave a comment or send me a message regarding topics of interest, questions, or consulting projects.

DR. LEWEY's ENDOSCOPY  TIPS

#1

Keep the endoscope umbilicus inside your right hand/arm for more stability and maneuverability.

#2

Use a clear distal attachment cap for food bolus impactions, UGI bleeds and endoscopic resections such as EMR and ESD.

#3

Try to train your left hand to control the up/down (big dial) with your thumb and the left/right (little/outside dial) with your ring finger.
